Vale Tony Iverson “IVO”
2/12/1964 to 11/1/2019
St Pats FC - No.8
It is with great sadness that St Pats FC advise of the loss of one of our founding members, Tony Iverson.
Tony (Ivo) commenced with St Pats FC in its inaugural year – 1974 – as a 10-year-old. Tony played most of his career with St Pats FC with an estimated 800 Junior and Senior games for St Pats FC.
As a player they didn’t come any better than Ivo: he terrorised opposition defences with his pace, skill and goal scoring capabilities. Opposition players still talk about playing against Ivo and what they had to do to combat his influence on the game and Ivo continued to do this right up until his passing at the age of 54, playing in our Over 35s side.
On the field Ivo was selfless, the best and fairest player St Pats will ever see. His passion and commitment to the club on and off the field was undeniable, but Tony never let this spill out on the pitch and always played with poise and grace and always treated the opposition with respect.
Tony also had a brilliant tactical mind for football and was often involved in tactical strategies at St Pats FC Senior level and especially with the junior development of the Club which was a great passion of his. Ivo not only coached both Senior and Junior sides for decades but held many positions in the club, including President, Secretary, Treasurer and Board member. Ivo worked tirelessly for St Pats FC, working all hours of the day and night to ensure that the club had the best chance to succeed. He worked to diligently to gain grants for our club and is one of the main reasons that St Pats FC is in a financially stable position today.
As a team mate, Ivo was considered a legend, he was a life member of our club and a genuine clubman. He was amazing bloke, always there to help out a mate in need or just to lend an ear or give some advice.
Ivo was man of integrity, was an amazing family man and just adored his wife Lisa, daughter Abby and son Curtis. Ivo would talk about them at training or on game day and, as a young kid, Curtis would train with the over 35s to be close to his Dad. One of Ivo’s proudest days was recently playing alongside Curtis in Reserve & third grades.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the Iverson Family at this time... One Club, One Heart, One Dream. As a tribute to this truly great man, St Pats FC have decided to retire the number 8 Guernsey as we feel that this number could never be filled again with such skill and integrity.
A true Gentleman, Tony will be forever missed by everyone
at this Club and the local football community.
